The best way to get your offense back on track is for someone to have a big game. That happened on Saturday when Corey Seager collected 4 hits and 4 RBIs in the Dodgers’ 7-2 win over the Giants. Justin Turner drove in the other 3 runs.
The Giants thought they were safe intentionally walking Cody Bellinger 3 times, but Seager made them pay. In the first inning, after an intentional walk to Bellinger, Seager singled to right. The Giants gave Bellinger a free pass in the third and Seager hit an RBI single. And once again in the 8th inning, the Giants walked Bellinger to load the bases and Seager hit a 2-run double.
The Giants sent a clear message to Seager yesterday afternoon when they walked gave Bellinger 3 free passes. They told Seager that they’re not afraid of him. But he made them pay with his 4 RBIs. Now the Giants will have to think twice before putting Bellinger on base.
“I think they probably won’t do that tomorrow,” said Bellinger. “That probably was the game plan today, but Seager made them pay. It was only a matter of time.”
It’s the rubber match of this three-game series at 1:05 pm on Sunday. Walker Buehler (6-1, 3.69) will face Madison Bumgarner (3-5, 4.05) in this battle. If the Dodgers are smart, Bellinger will bat in front of Seager again so that the Giants have to decide who to face.
