The Dodgers had the momentum in their favor from the first at-bat of the game. The lead-off hitter reached on an outfield miscue where the ball dropped. He quickly scored on an RBI double by Max Muncy. The Dodgers quickly had a 1-0 lead.
The Dodgers then loaded the bases and Freese came to the plate with one out. After receiving an ovation from his former fans, Freese got to work attacking his former team. With a 3-2 count, Freese did what he does best, driving the ball to the opposite field. This time, the ball didn’t land until it cleared the wall for a Grand Slam.
The Dodgers continued to make life miserable for the Pirates and especially Starling Marte. The Dodgers had two on and two outs when Austin Barnes drove a ball over a leaping Marte for a two-run double.
In the seventh inning, Bellinger continued his hot hitting and raised his home run total to 18. With a man on and one out, Bellinger crushed an 0-1 fastball and deposited it into the right field seats.
As if this wasn’t enough, the Dodgers added just a little more misery for the Pirates. In the 8th inning, Joc Pederson hit a line drive past a diving Marte. The ball rolled to the wall and Pederson had an RBI triple.
