Hyun-Jin Ryu absolutely dominated the Braves, throwing a complete game shutout in which he allowed just 4 hits and no walks. It took the Dodger star only 93 pitches to finish off the Braves and seal a 9-0 win. Justin Turner also had a career game, hitting 3 homers and driving in 6 runs.
Ryu came out of the gate firing on all cylinders on Tuesday night. All his pitches were working and the Braves could not figure him out. Ryu only struck out 6 batters, which kept his pitch count down and allowed him to go a full 9 innings. He was helped in a couple places by his defenders.
On the other side of the ball, Turner had a remarkable night. It started with a solo homer in the first when Turner attacked a fastball from Braves’ starter, Max Fried. Turner then drove in another run in the second with an RBI single. In the 5th, Turner hit a solo homer to straightaway center field.
And then came the cap of his game. In the 8th inning, the Dodgers had two men on when Turner hit an offspeed pitch into the left field pavilion for his 3rd homer of the game, his 4th hit, and his 6th RBI.
The Dodger go for the sweep on Wednesday night. Clayton Kershaw will take the mound for the Dodgers and Mike Foltynewicz will pitch for the Braves. Kershaw is the other pitcher who has carried this pitching staff this year by going deep into games. The game will begin at 7:10pm.
