Cody Bellinger hit his 13th home run, tying him for the most in the Major Leagues, but it was Austin Barnes who provided the early Friday night fireworks as he hit a home run and two-run double, powering the Dodgers to a 6-2 win over the Pirates.
As you know, after his hot start, Barnes fell into a deep slump. But he took a big step forward with his 3-RBI game last night. Barnes started his fantastic night with a solo homer in the second inning. He then picked up two more RBIs in the fourth with a two-run double.
While Barnes was having a fantastic night, Bellinger was having a great night of his own. In the first inning, Bellinger hit a two-run homer, tying him for the MLB lead in home runs. Bellinger’s homer gave the Dodgers a first-inning 2-1 lead.
The Dodgers also received a solid contribution from their starter, Hyun-Jin Ryu. Despite the fact that the Pirates put men on base, Ryu pitched 7 innings and allowed just 2 runs. He also struck out 10 batters.
Game 2 of the Dodgers/Pirates series will feature a faceoff between Clayton Kershaw and Joe Musgrove. Kershaw has a 2.77 ERA this year in two starts and Musgrove is 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 5 games. The game will begin at 6:10 pm.
