Just like Friday’s game, the Dodgers only scored 2 runs agains the Yankees, but this time, the pitching was great as they only allowed one run to beat the Yanks 2-1. The Dodger bullpen was lights-out and in postseason form as they fired 4 shutout innings and Kenley Jansen earned his 27th save of the year.
“It was good for him, it was good for all of us,” said Dave Roberts. “Need? Maybe a little strong. But for him, for us, it was really good to see. Kenley showed right there he can still command the baseball in a big spot and make the pitches.”
Jansen had to overcome a lot to get the save. After two one-out singles, Gio Urshella hit what looked like a game-ending double-play ball. But Brett Gardner hustled down the line and took out Max Muncy to break up the double play. After consulting with New York, it was determined that everyone was safe and the bases were loaded.
The rubber match of the series will be played today at 4:05 pm. Clayton Kershaw will pitch for the Dodgers and Domingo Germán will go for the Yanks. Kershaw has a 2.71 ERA but is coming off a game where he allowed 3 earned runs to the Blue Jays. Germán is 16-3 with a 4.15 ERA.
