Smith’s Late Homer Sends Dodgers To Series Win

From what we’ve seen from Will Smith this year, it’s clear that no situation is too big for him. That includes a 0-0 tie in the 9th inning. On Wednesday afternoon, Smith slugged a go-ahead 3-run homer in the 9th to give the Dodgers the lead and propel them to a 5-1 win.

“The Fresh Prince delivered again,” said Dave Roberts. “He just keeps taking good at-bats. Just comes up in big sports and big hits.”

“Just trying to get something to the outfield, and it worked out and went over the fence,” said Smith.

Smith’s homer opened the floodgates for even more offense as Alex Verdugo followed with his fourth hit of the game and Kristopher Negrón hit his second homer in as many games.

On the other side of the ball, Hyun-Jin Ryu was fantastic. He pitched 6 scoreless innings, allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk, and lowered his season ERA to 1.66. Interestingly enough, Ryu only struck out one batter.

The shutout was saved in the 3rd inning when Cody Bellinger made a fantastic throw to nab Tony Wolters at the plate. The throw was tracked by Statcast at 96.6 mph.
