Disneyland may be the most wonderful place on earth, but Dodger Stadium has taken over the title of the most magical place on earth. The Dodger Stadium magic continued on Wednesday night when Cody Bellinger hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning, leading the Dodgers to a 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Bellinger, who is making a bid for the NL MVP, extended the Dodgers’ magical stretch of walk-offs when his second homer of the night landed in the bleachers behind right field. It was his 2nd homer of the night and his 29th of the year, setting a Dodgers record for the most homers before the All-Star break.

“I think I was feeling positive and confident going into the season, but I did not expect to do this,” said Bellinger about his incredible season. “I don’t think anyone would expect to do this.”

In the second inning of Wednesday night’s game, with his parents in the stands, Bellinger crushed a changeup, hitting it over the center-field wall. With this homer, his 28th of the year, Bellinger tied Gill Hodges and Duke Snider as the only Dodgers with 28 homers before the All-Star break.

8 innings later, in the bottom of the 10th, Bellinger broke a 4-4 tie and the record with his 29th homer of the year. This one came on a fastball and landed 442 feet from home plate. With this, the Dodgers tied the 2004 Oakland A’s for the most consecutive walk-off wins.

But without some 9th inning magic, Bellinger’s walk-off homer wouldn’t have been possible. The Dodgers were trailing 4-3 in the 9th inning, but Matt Beaty tied the game up with an RBI single.

The Dodgers will finish the first half of the season with a 4 game set against the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers currently have a 16 game lead over the Padres, who own a 42-44 record, but are just 2.5 games back in the wild card.

Hyun-Jin Ryu will make his final start before the All-Star game and he will face Dinelson Lamet. Ryu is 9-2 with a 1.83 ERA this year. Lamet hasn’t pitched since 2017 and will be making his first start since having Tommy John Surgery. The game will begin at 6:10 pm.
