Walker Buehler bounced back from his last start in the best way possible, firing 8 innings of one-run ball and allowing just 2 hits with 11 strikeouts. With this dominance on the first night of the draft, Buehler showed the new Dodger prospects what they have to look foward to.
Buehler’s pitching was fantastic and it led the Dodgers to a 3-1 win in Arizona. His fastball velocity was up in the high 90’s with movement and his curveball was nasty. But they key was pounding the strikezone and being efficient.
“The efficiency is the biggest thing for me,” Buehler said. “I’m going to strike out guys in this league, and I’ve kind of shown that, but to get deeper in the games is obviously my goal. My only goal is to throw as many innings as possible.”
The only Dodger offense on Monday night came from Corey Seager. D-backs’ pitcher, Robbie Ray had kept the Dodgers quiet through the first three innings until a single and a walk put the Dodgers in business. Then it was only a matter of time before Seager hit a high fastball into the left-center field seats for a 3-run bomb.
Game two of the series will feature a battle between Taylor Clarke and NL Pitcher of the month, Hyun-Jin Ryu. Ryu is 8-1 on the year with a 1.48 ERA and Clarke is 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA. The game will begin at 6:40 pm.
