Bobby Wilson added to his case to be on the opening day roster when he slugged a decisive two-run home run leading the Dodgers split-squad to a 3-1 victory over the Padres. The split-squad was loaded with Dodgers’ starters and bench players. It also had players who are trying to make the roster, like Bobby Wilson.
The veteran catch is competing with Austin Barnes to be Yasmani Grandal‘s backup. Wilson has been solid this spring, he is hitting .275 with four homers. His homer against the Padres came on a 3-1 count.
Julio Urías pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in his final start of the spring. Urías will stay at Camelback Ranch for an extended Spring Training when the club breaks camp.
Hunter Renfroe provided the Padres’ only run of the day with an RBI double off of Dodgers’ reliever Sergio Romo. Chris Hatcher pitched two perfect innings in relief and Grant Dayton pitched a perfect inning of his own.
Wednesday is getaway day for the Dodgers, who break camp after their game against the Mariners in Peoria. Clayton Kershaw will pitch for the Dodgers, but do not expect him to pitch very long. It is just his final tune-up before opening day and he likely pitch three innings. The players are anxious to go home, so you will likely see them swinging at the first pitch a lot more than usual. The game starts at 1:10 pm PT and will be shown on MLB Network.
